Chapter 1 Technology

Children and teenagers both in the 21st century have had a wide spread of technology encounters, even babies. The booming of technology has gotten so extensive that it has made it's way into the schools. Granted some schools have computer systems provided for students, but now in the 21st century there are computer classes and online teachings being provided. Now 90% of all children from nursery school to grade 12 use computers. The use of technology I believe is a good thing because outside of school students and adults are all trying to learn how to use it, and then when students are in school they can use it for presentations, entertainment, or online meetings. I have even come across a middle school teacher that made his own website and the students could go on the website at home with or without their parents and get their homework right from there, with the lesson of the day and an online book to help! I was amazed by how these middle schooler's even knew how to turn on a computer, because I sure didn't when I was in early middle school. Technology is used in schools nationally. One type of technology that is on the new side is the Smart Boards. Smart Boards are very convenient, they help students learn by physically going up to the board and doing the problem, and they help teachers demonstrate and give instruction. A lot has changed since the 90's and even since I was in school, but change is good, and technology can help! Technology is obviously here to stay along with education, and that is why they have been joined together.

  1. Yay! Your first blog post! :) And you did a nice job enhancing your written text with the YouTube video. You also tried to hyperlink, but unfortunately "Technology in Education" didn't lead me anywhere, so I'm not sure what you were trying to reference/reflect upon.

I agree that technology is really everywhere and it continues to impact not only our lives, but our learning as well. Can you imagine life without a cell phone now? And, yet, that technology is not readily utilized in classrooms when it can be an instant 'computer' in the pocket of student hands! :)
