Chapter 2 Blog #B

Chapter 2

There was a lot of information in chapter 2. One thing that caught my eye was the tech tool 2.1 section about applications (apps) for teaching and learning. I would have never thought that schools would use apps for students to learn, and it’s not only the students learning, the teacher is learning as well because all of it is a new experience. In this section of tech tool 2.1 there were ideas of different tools to use in a classroom such as a mathboard. The mathboard app helps problem solving, mathematical puzzles and visual aid graphs. There seemed to be an app for about every subject!

Another interesting way technology is integrated into schools is when teachers have their own website through the school, that has the student’s classroom notes, educational videos, and what the students went over in class that day. I read that this also helped parents stay in touch with the teacher and their student’s grades throughout the school year. This to me seems very convenient because when I was in school I would bring home a report card and there would the choice of showing your parents your grades or not showing the grades. But it is important the parent is involved.

In the book it says that technology has helped students learn quicker and that it has a positive effect in schools which I agree with. Technology teaching practices are student centered and focus on the students ability to grow and learn. Student centered teaching is pretty much problem base teaching where the students figure out a problem with other classmates or by themselves. I thought this was odd because the teacher usually guides the students into what they need to learn but student centered teaching is revolved around technology and is constructive, which is also good.

  1. This is another post that you apparently didn't submit, but I'm grading it through the gradebook. Great comic strip and word cloud (which program did you use for the word cloud creation?) - be sure to include all web 2.0 digital creations in your list of resources, too.
