Chapter 3

Chapter 3 Blog C

There are two different methods that caught my attention, teacher centered learning and student centered learning. This got me because usually learning is all about the student, but if the teacher doesn't know what they are talking about how can the student learn?! The teacher centered learning method is where knowledge is known by everyone but can be fixed to where students are able to understand, this is where teachers find a way to make learning easier and more understandable.
Student centered learning is an approach where the teacher finds a way for students to engage in classroom activities and be able to bring those activities home. Students create there goals, and participate on problem solving and reflect there views.

Teacher and Student centered

Digital citizens also gained my attention, its not just for children its for everyone and this is teacher students how to use technology productively and safely. So what i understood from this was that digital citizens can take classes to learn how to use technology and get familiar with it, because technology changes every day. This also relates to this class because we have a responsibility as students to maintain a certain grade, and keep up to date on writing blogs and posting homework.

Chapter 2 Blog #B

Chapter 2

There was a lot of information in chapter 2. One thing that caught my eye was the tech tool 2.1 section about applications (apps) for teaching and learning. I would have never thought that schools would use apps for students to learn, and it’s not only the students learning, the teacher is learning as well because all of it is a new experience. In this section of tech tool 2.1 there were ideas of different tools to use in a classroom such as a mathboard. The mathboard app helps problem solving, mathematical puzzles and visual aid graphs. There seemed to be an app for about every subject!

Another interesting way technology is integrated into schools is when teachers have their own website through the school, that has the student’s classroom notes, educational videos, and what the students went over in class that day. I read that this also helped parents stay in touch with the teacher and their student’s grades throughout the school year. This to me seems very convenient because when I was in school I would bring home a report card and there would the choice of showing your parents your grades or not showing the grades. But it is important the parent is involved.

In the book it says that technology has helped students learn quicker and that it has a positive effect in schools which I agree with. Technology teaching practices are student centered and focus on the students ability to grow and learn. Student centered teaching is pretty much problem base teaching where the students figure out a problem with other classmates or by themselves. I thought this was odd because the teacher usually guides the students into what they need to learn but student centered teaching is revolved around technology and is constructive, which is also good.

Chapter 1 Technology

Children and teenagers both in the 21st century have had a wide spread of technology encounters, even babies. The booming of technology has gotten so extensive that it has made it's way into the schools. Granted some schools have computer systems provided for students, but now in the 21st century there are computer classes and online teachings being provided. Now 90% of all children from nursery school to grade 12 use computers. The use of technology I believe is a good thing because outside of school students and adults are all trying to learn how to use it, and then when students are in school they can use it for presentations, entertainment, or online meetings. I have even come across a middle school teacher that made his own website and the students could go on the website at home with or without their parents and get their homework right from there, with the lesson of the day and an online book to help! I was amazed by how these middle schooler's even knew how to turn on a computer, because I sure didn't when I was in early middle school. Technology is used in schools nationally. One type of technology that is on the new side is the Smart Boards. Smart Boards are very convenient, they help students learn by physically going up to the board and doing the problem, and they help teachers demonstrate and give instruction. A lot has changed since the 90's and even since I was in school, but change is good, and technology can help! Technology is obviously here to stay along with education, and that is why they have been joined together.
